Learning Disability Homes

Learning Disability Activities

All our learning disability clients are regularly out and about, and have access to transport.

All clients, regardless of ability and complexity, have person centered plans which identify the activities they most enjoy. Some clients choose to participate with others, and this includes regular trips to the speedway track and to the bowling alley. Others have more individual pursuits and hobbies and are accompanied by a support or care worker. Swimming is a popular outing as are trips to the cinema.

Day clubs

Day Clubs

Many clients already have an organised programme of activities, which involve attendance at day centres, which offer a variety of opportunities to explore interests and hobbies. These can include pottery, drama, and music. We run our own weekly drama class for all of our clients free of charge and regardless of the level of disability. All those who attend the drama are encouraged to participate in any way they feel comfortable with, whether this is behind the scenes or in the limelight.

Sports

Many of our more able clients are keen on sports, either participating or watching and are supported to achieve in whatever they choose to do. There is an annual Olympic style event for learning disability people and Isle Care is keen to promote this event to increase independence and well being through sport

Communication

We recognise the importance of modern communication tools. We encourage and support our clients to use IT equipment, to enable them to access the wider community.

Isle Care have invested in a specialised computer with a touch screen which is located at the main office in Shanklin and is available for all our clients to use and receive one to one training if necessary. As well as this many of the clients we support also have their own computers in their rooms and are helped to maximise the opportunities this offers. Some of our more able clients have mobile phones, which is seen as an important tool for safety and support.
