Job Profile
The post holder is employed by Isle Care Ltd Domiciliary Care Agency, working within the Isle of Wight and reporting to a locally based Team Supervisor and an office based Manager/Co-coordinator. The post holder will provide a variety of support services to people living in their own homes. Examples of the work to be carried out are as follows:
Support
- Attends to care and support tasks as agreed and in line with the service user’s plan, all of which are aimed at enabling the service user to maintain their independence within their own home or community.
- Provides personal care of an intimate nature, such as washing, dressing, and toileting, where required.
- Supports service users with their mobility and independence, helping users in and out of bed, bath, wheelchair and chairs, following agreed manual Handling and Risk Assessments.
- Where assessed, undertakes the monitoring, prompting and overseeing of service users medication, but only under the direction of a Supervisor and following company guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Assists service users to prepare meals of their choice, or prepares for them meals of their choice, as necessary. Completes the dietary monitoring information in the service users support plan.
- Assists service users to undertake, or undertakes for them, domestic duties such as cleaning, laundry and other general household duties, depending on the level of assessed need
- Assists service users with their groceries and other shopping tasks. This may include escorting service users to the shops.
- Provide support and companionship to service users. Support service users to maintain and develop social contacts and to be full and participating members of their community.
- Escort service users in a vehicle in order to facilitate access to activities/ social events, day services and medical services.
- Undertake any reasonable duties within the service user’s home, which would normally be done by the service user or a competent relative, with regards to the service user’s wishes, and to an agreed assessment, but where necessary responding with initiative to unusual circumstances.
- Support service users to develop their person centred plan, developing communication to enhance this, and work towards their goals.
- Support, enable and assist service users to be actively involved in decision making regarding their activities of daily living and, where appropriate, assist to participate or take on responsibilities for those tasks.
- Support service users to develop the six keys to citizenship.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of the special and particular needs of the service users.
- Allow appropriate choices and observations with regard to religious and cultural preferences.
- Manage service user behavioural problems.
- Record all handling of service users’ finances and offer these to service user for their inspection and signature.
- Maintains records, e.g. service user support plans, medication monitoring forms, work sheets, receipts, etc, to ensure that the level of information available in the service users’ home is suitable to support the effective safe delivery of the service.
- Use such equipment and substances as are necessary to the completion of tasks, e.g. cleaning chemicals, domestic electrical equipment, hoists, etc all within the appropriate Health and Safety guidelines and Isle Care Ltd Domiciliary Care Agency policies and observing prescribed procedures for fire and health and safety.
- Report any issues of concern (e.g. service user health issues) to the Team Supervisor and/or Manager/Co-coordinator.
- Record all visits to service users’ home in their service user care and support file.
- Works as a member of a team, attending such meetings as necessary to discuss service delivery.
- Maintain good working relationships with local community, Adult and Community Services and the local Community Health Teams.
General
- Undertakes qualification training (e.g. NVQ2 and LDAF) where required by the Domiciliary Care Standards and contractual requirements of the Isle of Wight Council.
- In consultation with his/her Team Supervisor, through the appraisal and supervision processes, identifies training needs appropriate to the individual’s role which will promote personal development.
- Keeps the Team Supervisor informed of any difficulties/changes in personal circumstances.
- Attends training courses and follow-up refresher courses as appropriate, particularly relating to health and safety, emergency procedures, emergency equipment and adult protection.
- Undertakes such other duties as may be required by the Community Team Supervisor or Manager/Co-coordinator.

Health and Safety
Under the provisions contained in the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, it is the duty of every employee;

Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Protection of Vulnerable Adults Scheme (POVA)
The post holder will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau. All applicants will also be checked against the POVA register (Protection of Vulnerable Adults Scheme). All offers of employment are subject to the completion of satisfactory checks. Such checks will continue to be made throughout the post-holder’s employment in line with statutory requirements.
