Responsible to: Manager/Senior staff on duty
The post holder will be employed by the Company as part of the ancillary staff team and will be accountable to the Manager or supervisor for the maintenance and improvement of the Units’ grounds, internal decoration and the maintenance of equipment, furnishings and fixtures within the Units. The post holder also has a key role in maintaining a safe working and living environment.
Examples of the work to be carried out are as follows:
- Carries out general maintenance of the grounds and gardens, e.g. Grass cutting, hedge trimming, sweeping-up, clearing leaves and litter, hoeing, digging, fencing, weeding, lawn edging and raking.
- Undertakes gardening activities, which may include the production of vegetables and flowers, seeding, pruning, planting, fertilising and watering.
- After appropriate training, uses chemical controls as necessary for weed killing, cleaning etc., in accordance with COSHH and Health and Safety guidelines.
- Uses, cleans and maintains glasshouses and frames, which residents use for raising plants etc, as appropriate.
- Uses appropriate power tools and motor mowers in addition to using the usual range of basic gardening tools and equipment provided by the Company in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines.
- With due regard to Health and Safety requirements, identifies maintenance and repair needs, informs Manager or supervisor so that appropriate work can be carried out. Assists residents to personalise their rooms by hanging pictures, fixing shelving etc., as required.
- 7. Carries out cleaning and maintenance as necessary to equipment within the Units, including repairs, such as replacement of light bulbs, fitting of plugs, door closers, tap washers etc. As required, undertakes internal and external decoration work including low level window cleaning.
- Periodic inspection reporting and recording, as directed by the Manager, of equipment and fixtures for Health and Safety purposes, e.g. ladder checks, PAC testing etc. Minor repairs to be carried out by the post holder as indicated in 7 above and in accordance with Company policy. Responsible for some high level cleaning including for example maintenance of extraction grilles as required.
- Attends meetings, training courses and follow-up refresher courses as required, particularly in relation to Health and Safety.
- 10. Maintains a professional and hygienic appearance, and uses personal protective equipment as required.
- Maintains care and business confidentiality at all times.
- Undertakes other such duties as may be required by the Unit Manager or supervisor.
