Job Profile
The Post-holder will be employed by Isle Care as part of the care team and will be responsible to the Manager, through the supervisor, for the preparation and cooking of meals required within the Home and to customers in the community and for the maintenance of hygienic working conditions within the kitchen.
Examples of the work to be carried out are as follows:
- Undertakes a range of skilled cooking activities to provide nutritionally balanced and attractive meals including portion control and special dietary needs where necessary.
- Prepares menus, or, where this is undertaken by other staff, contributes to their preparation. Is aware of special needs of customers who may be physically or mentally frail.
- Maintains records of stock and provides lists of necessary provisions for the approval by the Manager or their delegated representative.
- Ensures that the kitchen and its surrounds are kept in hygienic condition and as necessary allocates tasks to the domestic assistant. The post-holder is required to clean their own work area and so observe appropriate hygiene regulations throughout the kitchen. Uses such equipment and substances as are necessary to the completion of tasks, eg cleaning chemicals, etc, all within the appropriate Health and Safety guidelines.
- Supervises, as delegated, other kitchen staff in cooking and cleaning duties and has operational control of the serving of the food.
- Operates a variety of mechanised kitchen equipment including food mixers, deep fat fryers, meat slicers, microwaves, steamers, peelers and blast chillers.
- Monitors the condition of kitchen equipment and reports shortages and hazards.
- Organises and prepares meals to be taken from the premises following, as appropriate, guidelines for such preparation, eg home care meals, meals-on-wheels.
- Consults with customers to ensure that individuals are offered choice and that individual needs are met.
- Attends training courses and follow-up refresher courses as appropriate, particularly Health and Safety and food hygiene courses.
- Undertakes any other duties as may be required by the Manager.
