Job Profile

Responsible to: Manager/ Senior Staff on Duty/Cook

The Post-holder will be employed by Isle Care as part of the care team and, under the direction of the Manager or Cook, undertakes such tasks connected with the preparation, cooking and serving of food required within the Unit and for maintaining the kitchen in a safe, secure and hygienic condition. The post-holder must work to the defined Company quality standards.

Examples of the work to be carried out are as follows:

  1. Cooks meals in accordance with the menu devised by the Cook or Manager. This may range from simple cooking, eg preparing light snacks and serving of prepared food to the main meal of the day.
  2. Organises the serving of food to customers. The post-holder is expected to serve meals but this activity is usually shared with other staff allocated by the Cook or Manager.
  3. Cleans work surfaces, ovens, utensils and other equipment used. The post-holder may be included on a rota for washing-up and cleaning cupboards and floors. Carries out kitchen cleaning duties as required and observes appropriate food hygiene regulations. Uses such equipment and substances as are necessary to the completion of tasks, eg cleaning chemicals, etc. all within the appropriate Health and Safety regulations.
  4. Deputises in the absence of the Cook and, as delegated, supervises other kitchen staff in cooking and cleaning duties.
  5. Assists the Cook or Manager in compiling lists of provisions required.
  6. Uses a variety of kitchen equipment including food mixers, deep fat fryers, meat slicers, microwaves, steamers, peelers and blast chillers.
  7. Assists with the monitoring of the condition of kitchen equipment and reports shortages and hazards immediately.
  8. Assists with the preparation of customers’ special dietary requirements – consulting with individuals and taking preferences into account.
  9. Attends meetings, training courses and follow-up refresher courses, as required, (including Health and Safety and food hygiene courses).
  10. Maintains a professional and hygienic appearance.
  11. Maintains care and business confidentiality.
  12. Undertakes any other duties as may be required by the Manager or Supervisor.
