People with learning disabilities, their family and advocates, and staff from across the Somerset Care Group came together recently for the organisation’s first conference dedicated to Learning Disability services.
Over 150 people attended the event at Haynes Motor Museum in Sparkford to hear from speakers on the topic of ‘Communication and Inclusion’. During the day Somerset Care’s new brand for learning disability services, ‘Realise’, was launched, and delegates were entertained by ‘The Misfits’ learning disability theatre group and a lunchtime performance from the Roc Learning Disability Samba Band.
Delegates were invited to share their views of services for people with learning disabilities and could speak to a number of exhibitors about new services, as well as taking a trip into the museum itself.
Andrew Larpent, Chief Executive of the Somerset Care Group, said, “Our first event dedicated to learning disability services has been a great success, and I am delighted that so many people have been able to contribute today. This event marks a significant development in the Somerset Care Group’s Learning Disability Services, and we hope to work together with people with learning disabilities, their advocates and staff to help them realise their aspirations and potential.”
